Measuring interactions between unlike proteins and their relationship to phase behavior

Co-advisors: Prof. Abraham Lenhoff, Prof. Clifford Robinson

The behavior of systems of proteins in solution is governed mainly by the short range forces between molecules. These weak forces determine the thermodynamic properties of the system, including phase behavior and stability. This project aims at quantifying short range interactions between unlike proteins. This is accomplished by the measurement of their cross interaction osmotic pressure second virial coefficient through the adaptation of Self Interaction Chromatography (SIC) to protein binary systems. A second step involves correlating these short range interactions to the phase behavior of the system.
